I’m Vincent (1975), aka ‘Vinnie!’, from the Netherlands. I work as an Art Director / Graphic Designer at a communication and advertising agency (a small selection of my portfolio here). At my job I am continuously working with images, shapes and compositions. And in the weekends I also love to create compositions and images, with my Canon.
I try to create still lifes that tell a charming tale of desolation.
Photography as passion
I started photographing in 2007 when I bought my first SLR camera, a Canon EOS 400D. At first I took pictures of landscapes, nature and animals. Then I saw some urbex photos on the internet and I wanted to try that myself. The only urban location I knew at that time was soccer stadium nearby. On a beautiful autumn day I climbed over the fence and for hours the site was my territory. The radiant sun, the excitement, the silence, the photogenic places … At that moment I knew I wanted to do this much more often. Soon I joined some forums and met fellow explorers with whom I hit the road to explore as much as possible.
There’s not one favorite location in particular. There are several very special locations that I will never forget, for various reasons. For example because of the stunning architecture, the beautiful natural decay, or the effort that I had to do to find the location.
I think I have created my own style by the choice of subjects and the attention I pay to compositions and post processing. Light vs. shadows, saturated vs. unsaturated colors and (selective) sharpness are important aspects. My photographs are still lifes which tell a charming tale of desolation.
I love what I do and I hope to continue doing it. It is not my goal to make big money with this type of photography. But it is an expensive hobby. I hope to find a way to sell some pictures, so I can invest in new and more advanced equipment. And besides that I would like to expose my artwork more. And maybe there’s a book coming up next year!
